The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Homeland Protectors Supplies Limited to begin local production of satellite laser systems and modern security drones.
Director-General of DICON, Maj.-Gen. Babatunde Alaya, described the partnership as a milestone aimed at bringing advanced technological expertise in satellite communication, laser systems, and security drones to Nigeria.
“Today marks another significant step for DICON. We have signed a major partnership agreement with Homeland Protectors Supplies Limited, an international organisation known for its technological innovation,” Alaya said.
He noted that the agreement allows Homeland Protectors to set up a production line in Nigeria to serve both the country’s defence industry and other security agencies.
“The aim is not just to meet domestic defence needs but also to export excess production capacity to other African countries,” he added.
Alaya thanked the Managing Director of Homeland Protectors for personally travelling to Nigeria to sign the MoU, emphasizing the importance of direct collaboration and knowledge exchange.
“This joint venture will bring immense benefits, including local job creation, technology transfer, and an upgrade of our defence production capabilities,” he stated.
The partnership is also expected to foster long-term cooperation between DICON and the international firm, contributing to regional security and industrial self-reliance.
Alaya highlighted the role of government support in enabling the collaboration.
“The support of President Bola Tinubu and the Ministers of Defence has been instrumental in making this partnership a reality,” he said.
He particularly praised President Tinubu for signing the DICON Act in 2023, which provided the legal framework for international partnerships.
“The DICON Act has opened doors for us to collaborate globally, which would not have been possible otherwise,” he added.
The Director-General also commended the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for their continued support of DICON’s transformation.
Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Homeland Protectors Supplies Limited, Mr. Ali Aldayhani, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian government for enabling the partnership.
“Without the DICON Act, we wouldn’t have been able to sign this MoU. We are proud to work with DICON and contribute to Nigeria’s defence industry,” Aldayhani said.
