The Labour Party (LP) has affirmed Rep. Jonathan Gbwefi, representing Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Nasarawa State.

The party also affirmed former Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, as its candidate for the June 20, 2026, Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election and the 2027 senatorial election in the zone.

Dr. Kalu Oke, Returning Officer for the party’s primaries in the state, announced the results at a special nomination congress held in Lafia on Saturday.

Oke stated that Gbwefi emerged unopposed and was duly affirmed by delegates in accordance with the Labour Party Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the party’s electoral guidelines.

“Accordingly, having satisfied all constitutional and procedural requirements, Hon. Jonathan Gbwefi is hereby declared the winner and duly elected as the Labour Party governorship candidate for Nasarawa State,” he said.

He added that the candidate’s certificate of return would be presented at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja next week.

Oke also announced that Maku, who also contested unopposed, was confirmed as the party’s candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District after meeting all constitutional and procedural requirements.

It was reported that Maku is among candidates contesting the June 20 senatorial by-election, which was called due to the death of Sen. Godiya Akwashiki.

Speaking after his affirmation, Gbwefi pledged to provide purposeful and transformative leadership if elected governor in 2027.

He expressed confidence that the Labour Party would win the election and reposition the state for sustainable growth and development.

“By God’s grace, we will win the election, govern Nasarawa State, and make it better than it is today,” he said.

The lawmaker described his candidature as a social contract with the people and promised to harness the state’s abundant human and natural resources for the benefit of all residents.

He urged party supporters and residents to conduct their campaigns peacefully and support Labour Party candidates in future elections.

“At the right time, let us campaign, vote, and elect the Labour Party for the liberation and transformation of Nasarawa State,” he said.

It was also reported that certificates of return were presented to the party’s candidates for Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly seats across the state’s three senatorial districts and 13 local government areas.
