ASHENEWS reports that the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has said that governance is not child’s play but a call to sincere service.
Otu, who presented his ‘Agenda for people first’ to.newsmen at the Ernest Etim Bassey NUJ Press Centre in Calabar on Tuesday, assured that if elected into office, his administration will create an enabling environment for everyone to have the chance to excel in various areas of endeavour.
“The governorship of Cross River State is not a child’s play, it is a call to sincere service, and I do not take it lightly, I shall give my best with utmost integrity, humility and sincerity. I call upon everyone, beyond party lines and ethnicity to join my running mate and I in pursuing this dream of people-first by providing enabling environment, access to markets and opportunities, better life and prosperity for our people.”
The guber candidate also assured that his administration will complete all projects inherited or initiated by previous administrations in transparent manner.
On the dilapidated state library which today serves as shelter and hideout for street children, Otu said it would be repositioned and stocked with modern books.
“We will reposition the Cross River State library as the pride of our state, putting in place state-of-the art infrastructure and serene environment for research and learning.
“We will design and build modern libraries with enough reading space and have a projection in the design for expansion in the future, equip them with chairs, tables, shelves and computers,” Otu said, adding that, “our libraries will be stocked with relevant modern books and high-speed internet access for online researches.”
On water, the governorship candidate reaffirmed of the readiness of his administration to place Cross River as the leading state in the provision of safe drinking water through the implementation of the state water supply and sanitation policy.
“We will attract national and international water and sanitation programs to the state and ensure that portable water scarcity becomes a thing of the past,” Otu remarked.
Admitting that the state is blessed with arable land, he disclosed that his administration will strengthen and scale up the agro revolution of the present administration while ensuring that agriculture becomes maximally profitable to the citizenry.
The candidate who in 2011 served as the Senator representing Cross River Southern senatorial district, intimated of his plans to deploy a world class security architecture that will help the state in achieving a near zero crime status throu modern technologies, information and reorientation.
