An Enugu-based NGO, African Network For Peace And Good Governance (ANPG) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to succumb to pressure to postpone the elections.
This is contained in a statement entitled, “2023 Elections: Four Mistakes INEC should not Repeat,” and made available to newsmen on Monday in Enugu by its Executive Director, Bede Aneke.
Aneke said INEC should conduct both the Presidential and governorship elections fixed for February 25 and March 11 as scheduled.
He urged the commission to deliver elections that would be generally acceptable, adding that the outcome of the elections would determine the shape the country would take in the next four years.
The executive director said that the world was watching, thereby urging INEC to deliver to Nigerians elections that would truly reflect the wishes and aspirations of the masses.
The suffering is unbearable and painful; we can’t continue in this trajectory,” Aneke said.
Aneke went further to list, Election Postponement, Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) Malfunction, Late Arrival of INEC Officials and Deployment of Voting Materials, Denial of opposition parties and election observer’s access to electoral process as some of the mistakes INEC should not repeat.
He said that Nigerians were already tired with the current situation of things in the country, which could not be totally insulated from the faulty governance architecture since the return of democracy.
Aneke added that the people were gasping to breathe fresh air, and warned that nothing should derail the 2023 general election.
