The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has urged the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) to uphold industry standards and strengthen human capital development. The commission also called on the group to promote good corporate governance.

Mrs. Oritsemeyewa Eyesan, NUPRC Chief Executive, made the remarks during a courtesy visit by IPPG Chairman Mr. Adegbite Falade in Abuja, according to a statement on Tuesday by Eniola Akinkuotu, Head of Media and Corporate Communications at NUPRC.

Eyesan described IPPG as a key force in the industry, especially following the divestment of international oil companies. She emphasized adherence to the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 and highlighted the importance of human capital and strong governance.

“One area we need to spotlight is human capital development. As the industry grows, lapses can hurt us all. Financiers rate Nigeria, not individual companies, so our human capacity must meet global standards,” she said.

Eyesan reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting the industry and noted that NUPRC went paperless on April 18, 2026, as part of its digital transformation initiative.

Falade commended Eyesan’s dynamic leadership, noting visible improvements in the industry since her appointment in December 2025. He urged the commission to maintain regular consultations with IPPG, emphasizing the importance of aligning with the Nigerian agenda.
