The Dangote Refinery has refuted claims that it is selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N898 per litre to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The company described the statement attributed to NNPCL spokesperson Mr. Olufemi Soneye as misleading and intended to undermine recent progress in tackling energy shortages in Nigeria.
In a statement released on September 15, 2024, the company clarified that the purported pricing was false and part of a deliberate effort to discredit the milestone achievement towards resolving energy insufficiencies that have plagued the country for decades.

Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer for Dangote urged Nigerians to disregard the misleading report and await an official announcement regarding petrol pricing. This will be provided by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based Crude Sales to Local Refineries, which is scheduled to begin its work on October 1, 2024.
Chiejina emphasized that the crude oil used for the current stock was procured in dollars, and the products were sold to NNPCL in dollars as well, resulting in significant savings compared to the cost of imported fuel. This measure aims to ensure petrol availability in every local government area across the country, including remote regions.
The Dangote reassured the public of its commitment to providing quality petroleum products and eliminating the persistent fuel scarcity in Nigeria.
