The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has issued a directive to all registered medical and dental practitioners to update their accounts on the MDCN website by November 14, 2024.
The Council emphasized that this update is vital to maintain continued professional recognition and is part of an effort to refresh the Council’s Master Register.
In an official statement, the MDCN highlighted the importance of this update, stating, “Updating your professional record is essential for compliance with MDCN regulations and demonstrates your commitment to professional standards.

Only the most recent details on record will be included in the Master Register, which will be published in January 2025.”
The Council advised practitioners without an existing account to create one on the MDCN website. Upon successful account creation, login details will be sent via email after completing the global verification process.
Moreso, practitioners with additional qualifications (AQ) must register these qualifications to be recognized on the specialist register.
For assistance, practitioners are encouraged to contact the Council via email at registrar@mdcn.gov.ng.
The MDCN also addressed foreign-trained medical and dental professionals who have passed the Foreign Trained Medical and Dental Graduates (FTMDG) Assessment Examination and have been issued full registration by the Council.
These professionals are now fully recognized as medical and dental practitioners in Nigeria and are authorized to practice in the country. However, they must renew their Annual Practising Certificate each year.
The Council clarified that these fully registered professionals are deemed to have met all the educational requirements mandated by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act CAP M8, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, including holding the MBBS degree (or its equivalent), completing housemanship, and obtaining the necessary certificate of experience.
