African tech company Interswitch has teamed up with the Lagos State Government to launch a new digital Blood Inventory Management System (BIMS) and an updated website for the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Committee (LSBTC).
This was done in June 2025 as part of a bigger project called Lagos State Health Information Platform (Lagos SHIP), which aims to improve healthcare using technology.
The new system helps manage everything related to blood, from signing up donors and testing their blood to tracking and sharing it with hospitals. It gives doctors, hospitals, and officials live updates on how much blood is available, making it easier to plan and respond in emergencies.
Interswitch built a secure and flexible system that works well with the rest of the Lagos SHIP platform. This connection makes it easier for different parts of the health system to share important information and work together more effectively.
Mr. Olufemi Olapegba, the Managing Director of Digital Health at Interswitch, said the new system shows their strong focus on using technology to solve real problems, especially in healthcare. He said the launch of the website and BIMS is proof that smart technology can improve services, make things more transparent, and help save lives.
He explained that by moving blood donation, testing, and sharing processes online, the system makes healthcare more efficient and based on data, which helps save more lives.
Interswitch said this is a big step in improving healthcare in Lagos State. It also shows their growing interest in digital health tools like online medical records, digital insurance claims, healthcare funding, and information sharing between hospitals.
By building the digital tools needed for better healthcare, Interswitch is strengthening its role as a trusted tech partner for governments and organizations in Africa. The launch of the website and BIMS shows how working together in public and private sectors can improve important services like healthcare.
