Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin, the Director-General of the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission, said that 55,557 pregnant women have benefited from the Abiyamo Maternal and Child Health Insurance Scheme since it started six years ago.
The Abiyamo Scheme is one of the programs managed by the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission.
Dr. Oyeneyin said this during an event in Akure, the state capital, celebrating the commission’s six-year anniversary.
He explained that the commission was created to help people afford healthcare by reducing financial difficulties.
According to him, the Abiyamo Scheme has helped over 55,557 pregnant women and children under five years old in six years.So far, 18,305 babies have been born through the scheme, with 5,107 of them delivered by Cesarean section.
Among the births were 436 sets of twins, 11 sets of triplets, and two sets of quadruplets.He also said that since October 2021, 82,662 vulnerable people have been registered for free healthcare in all 203 wards across the state’s 18 local government areas.
These include widows, elderly people, women of childbearing age, and children under five.The program also supports 203 orphans, 2,517 people with disabilities, and 404 people with sickle cell disease. It provides medical care, including kidney dialysis for 18 people who receive regular treatment.
Dr. Oyeneyin added that government workers are also benefiting from the commission. So far, 103 have joined the Orange Health Insurance Scheme.
Currently, 103,738 people, including public workers and their family members, are getting medical care through the program, and more than 1,366 surgeries have been done in under three years under the Orange Health Scheme.
He encouraged everyone in the state to make use of the government’s health programs to get medical help.
He said their aim is to register one million more people in the next two years. He also expressed happiness that the program is helping many families across the state.
