ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago has revealed that the state government will sponsor 100 students from Agwara to study medical-related courses within and outside Nigeria.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor, Bologi Ibrahim.

According to the statement, the governor disclosed this during a tour of ongoing projects in Agwara local government area of Niger state.

According to the governor, this initiative seeks to address the shortage of healthcare workers and improve access to medical services.

He also announced that the Agwara Level 2 Primary Healthcare facility will be upgraded to a general hospital.

Speaking on the Federal Government’s approval for constructing the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, Bago said that the bridge which will be constructed across the River Niger will connect Zamare and Rofia communities in Niger and Kebbi States.

He said that the proposed bridge aims to facilitate the movement of goods and people, enhancing regional trade and socio-economic activities.

Speaking further, Bago announced that discussions are ongoing for the creation of a free trade zone, enabling seamless rail transportation of goods from Lagos through Babanna to Cotonou, further integrating Niger State into the regional economy.

During his tour, Governor Bago inspected the 93-kilometer Rofia-Lumma-Borgu Federal Road reconstruction and announced plans to rehabilitate the 55-kilometer Lumma-Babanna road. Both projects are expected to enhance connectivity and trade within the region.

Other development plans for Agwara include constructing a 5-kilometer township road with solar-powered streetlights and drilling boreholes in each of the 10 wards in the area.

The Governor also inspected the Bi-water project in Rofia, assuring residents of access to potable water within three months.
