The Kwara State Government on Wednesday inaugurated the Local Government Area Primary Health Care (PHC) Task Force as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination and service delivery at the grassroots level.

Speaking at the inauguration in Ilorin, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Prof. Nusirat Elelu, said the initiative underscored the government’s commitment to deepening community ownership and accountability within the PHC system.

Elelu, who was represented by the Director of Primary Health Care Systems, Dr. Michael Oguntoye, said the task force would play key roles in monitoring, evaluation, and supervision of intervention programmes at the local level.

“The task force will also create public awareness to ensure citizens take advantage of available healthcare initiatives,” she said.
“It will help address the challenges faced by health workers and mobilise resources to support primary healthcare programmes in their respective areas.”

Chairman of the newly inaugurated task force and Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Shehu AbdulRahman, highlighted the importance of a functional health task force at the local level.

He described the initiative as a key step towards strengthening the state’s health system and improving access to quality care.

AbdulRahman commended the state government for its sustained investment in healthcare delivery, attributing the progress made in the sector to the visionary leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

In his goodwill message, the Social and Behavioural Change Consultant for UNICEF, Dr. Usman Danlami, praised Ilorin West for its outstanding performance in the PHC sector.

Danlami also commended the collaborative efforts between the state government and development partners, reaffirming UNICEF’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote stronger health systems and improved service delivery.
