The Kaduna State Government has restated its commitment to reducing maternal and newborn mortality, pledging stronger collaborations with stakeholders across all levels of the health sector.
The State Commissioner for Health, Umma K. Ahmed, made this declaration at the closing ceremony of the 4-day Maternal and Newborn Mortality Innovation Initiative (MAMII) Workshop held in Kaduna. During the event, she officially inaugurated the Technical Advisory Team charged with driving the implementation of innovative strategies aimed at safeguarding maternal and child health.
In her remarks, Commissioner Ahmed emphasized that no woman should die while giving life, underscoring the critical need for innovation, community participation, and sustained partnerships to address the root causes of maternal deaths in the state.
“Our goal is to build a resilient healthcare system where every mother and newborn is safe. We welcome all stakeholders—public, private, traditional, and religious—who are committed to transforming our health outcomes,” she said.
She commended the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, for his unwavering support and commitment to health sector reform. She also praised the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, for her technical expertise and consistent advocacy in maternal and child health.
Furthermore, the Commissioner extended her appreciation to the Federal Minister of Health, development partners, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other stakeholders for their active involvement and support in driving the MAMII agenda forward.
The MAMII initiative aims to reduce preventable maternal and neonatal deaths by deploying innovative solutions, improving access to quality care, and enhancing accountability within the health system.
With the inauguration of the Technical Advisory Team, the Kaduna State Ministry of Health is expected to intensify its efforts in policy implementation, data-driven interventions, and community health engagement, marking a new phase in the fight against maternal mortality.
