The Zamfara State Police Command has arraigned a former deputy chief of staff to Governor Bello Muhammad, Dr Bashir Maru and four others before the Chief Magistrate Court 1 for criminal conspiracy, attempt to commit offence/ criminal misappropriation, alleged offences that are against sections 95 and 97 of the Panel Code.

Maru was alleged to have conspired with four others to elope with a Prado Jeep belonging to Zamfara state government. He is also alleged to have taken the vehicle to Kaduna and got it repainted after he was sacked as deputy chief of staff.

Those arraigned were Isah Jabbi Usman and Shu’aibu Musa, while those on the run are Baashir Muh’d Maru (former Deputy Chief of Staff and Executive Secretary Hospitals Services management Board), Yusuf Bello and one other simply identified as Yazeed.

Counsel to Isah Jabbi Usman, Barrister Ahmad Kwatarkwashi earlier informed the Chief Magistrate that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter and urged him to transfer the case to a court of competent jurisdiction.

The state government urged the court not to grant bail to the two suspects who appeared before the court, to enable the Police conduct their investigations as well as arrest of other three suspects, including Dr Bashir Maru.

The Chief Magistrate, Sa’adu Gurbin Bore after listening to arguments by Counsel to Zamfara State Government, Barrister Muhammad Aminu and the accused persons, adjourned the hearing to a date to be communicated later.
