A former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto North (APC), Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, has donated N10 million in cash and 100 bundles of clothing materials to support orphans and other vulnerable persons ahead of the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) celebration.
The donation was channelled through the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency (SOZEA) and received by the agency’s Chairman, Lawal Maidoki, in Sokoto on Saturday.
Sen. Wamakko explained that the gesture is intended to benefit approximately 10,000 vulnerable individuals, particularly orphans, enabling them to celebrate Sallah with joy and dignity.
“This is part of our continued commitment to supporting the less privileged in society, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
“The donation is meant to assist vulnerable members of society, especially orphans, so that they too can celebrate Sallah in a happy and joyful mood, expecting reward from Almighty Allah.”
Maidoki expressed deep appreciation for the senator’s generosity and prayed for abundant divine reward.
“The agency particularly appreciates the lawmaker for his generosity and compassion towards the needy,” he said.
He described Sen. Wamakko as a renowned philanthropist and compassionate leader whose consistent support for vulnerable groups in Sokoto State and beyond is well recognised.
The chairman assured that both the cash and clothing materials would be judiciously distributed to the intended beneficiaries.
The Murshid (spiritual guide) of the agency later offered special prayers, seeking Allah’s blessings, continued guidance for the donor, and successful distribution of the items to deserving recipients.
The donation underscores ongoing efforts by prominent leaders in Sokoto to complement state government initiatives in improving the welfare of the less privileged, especially during the sacred seasons of Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitr.
