The media office of Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has dismissed reports alleging that the lawmaker distributed N1,000 each to 10,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs), orphans and other vulnerable individuals in Sokoto State.
The office described the report as misleading, saying it misrepresented the nature of the senator’s Ramadan support to vulnerable citizens.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the office said the donation in question actually involved N10 million and 100 bundles of guinea brocade (clothing materials) distributed to about 10,000 indigent citizens, mainly IDPs, orphans and other vulnerable groups in the state.
According to the statement, the items were distributed through the (SOZEA), led by its Executive Secretary, Mallam Lawal Maidoki.
The clarification followed a report suggesting that the former Sokoto governor gave N1,000 each to the beneficiaries.
The senator’s office said the Ramadan outreach was part of Wamakko’s longstanding humanitarian tradition of supporting vulnerable citizens during the holy month.
“For over five decades, Senator Wamakko has consistently extended humanitarian support to various categories of citizens in Sokoto State and beyond, especially during Ramadan,” the statement said.
It added that during the ongoing 1447 AH (2026) Ramadan, the lawmaker had already distributed various items and cash assistance to thousands of beneficiaries.
According to the statement, on March 11, Wamakko distributed wrappers and cash to 17,000 female beneficiaries, while on March 12, he provided guinea brocade (shadda) and cash to about 50,000 male beneficiaries.
Similarly, on March 13, the former governor extended support to 10,000 persons with disabilities and elderly citizens, who received cash, 10-kilogram bags of rice and guinea brocade materials.
The statement also noted that similar support was extended to various youth groups and associations.
Commenting on the donation distributed through the agency, Maidoki commended the senator for what he described as a consistent commitment to assisting vulnerable members of the Muslim community.
The senator, according to the statement, said the support was intended to enable the beneficiaries share in the joy and blessings associated with the forthcoming celebrations.
The media office stressed that the gesture was aimed at easing the hardship of vulnerable citizens and enabling them celebrate the festival with relative comfort.
