The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released the names and photographs of 124 Nigerians identified for deportation as part of its ongoing immigration enforcement operations targeting foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes.
The updated list, published on the DHS website on Wednesday, places the affected Nigerians on what the agency described as its “worst-of-the-worst” criminal register, a category reserved for non-citizens with criminal convictions who are subject to removal from the United States.
According to the DHS, the publication of the list aims to highlight individuals arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws.
Although the names and photographs of the 124 Nigerians have been made public, U.S. authorities did not disclose when the deportations would begin or provide details of the specific offences committed by each individual.
In a statement accompanying the release, the DHS said the listed individuals were among criminal aliens who had been convicted of serious offences and were undergoing immigration enforcement procedures.
The agency stated that the action forms part of broader efforts to remove non-citizens who violate U.S. laws and no longer have legal grounds to remain in the country.
The development comes amid intensified immigration enforcement by U.S. authorities, with the DHS continuing to publicise cases involving foreign nationals convicted of crimes as part of its deportation programme.
