The Management of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital has urged the general public to disregard the unverified allegations leveled against the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Peter Babatunde Olaitan by Osun Eagle Eye on Good Governance.

A statement issued by the hospital’s head of Public Relations, Wale Ajibolu maintained that the hospital mangement has prudently managed the internally generated fund to keep the hospital going in the last three years.

On the allegation of epileptic power supply, the statement maintained that the premises of the hospital have never been in darkness.

“There are solar lights installed in strategic locations within the hospital, added to this is a 500KVA generating plant that supplies 80% of locations and the Management is working on increasing the numbers.

“The Management would like to state clearly that there are five 5 functioning treated boreholes to supply water for the use of the hospital.

“The drug production of the hospital is currently planned to have its own building rather than the current location which was frowned at by NAFDAC. The unit still continues to produce some consumables like methylated spirit, sanitizer, and liquid soap.

“The Management under the leadership of Prof. Olaitan has never left any stone unturned in procuring Consumables for medical personnel and patient’s use. The Management also allocates some space within the hospital so as to make it easier for the end users. There is also provision for emergency purchase to tackle any unexpected shortage.”

The statement reads further “Prof. Olaitan is paying all duly debts been owned by the hospital. These debts were being paid from the Hospital’s IGR.

“The hospital has its facilities to cater for the patients that were admitted into it’s care. The issues of referring a patient to other medical centers does not occur in the hospital except in areas where there are no specialists due to “Japa” problem.

“The Management single handedly built a new modern well equipped  Accident and Emergency Unit from the IGR. This development has really helped the hospital in admitting more patients into our medical facilities. In addition to this, the Management has rehabilitated and continues to rehabilitate facilities within the hospital.

“REMITTA: This is a practice to block leakages, to checkmate any fraudulent practice and to allow transparency instead of collection of cash by individual staff from which the hospital had suffered untowards loss in the past. Employment of REMITTA perssonel was approved by immediate past Board.

This has really helped in increasing the IGR of the hospital tremendously.

“The public also needs to note that, percentage being deducted by Remitta in the hospital is the lowest compared to other centres where REMITA operates in the country.

“The current management worked hard to present the 2012 staff for upgrading to senior staff by the last administration. This protected them from being sacked as gazetted by the past Government.

“Casual workers were on ground before the current management and the Management is yet to get approval for the permanent employment of these workers.

“It is far from the truth that, patients pay another fee after making payments for consumables in the hospital.

“ECG and Eco cardiogram machines were just newly purchased by the Management to replace the obsolete ones that were bought over a decade ago. The Management is also working seriously on getting Public Private Partnership (PPP) for the CT Scan machine as the old CT was declared obsolete two years after it was purchased over a decade ago.”

It assured that the management of the teaching hospital is committed to providing qualitative healthcare services, training and research under an open and transparent arrangement.
