…renews TCN MD Sule Abdulaziz’s tenure
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) while also approving the renewal of Sule Abdulaziz’s tenure as Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Professor Shu’aib Aliyu replaces Ahmed Aminu, who stepped down from the position to pursue the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.
The presidency noted that Aliyu is a seasoned academic and administrator with vast experience in research and institutional leadership.
The statement explained that the appointment reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening key institutions within Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
Onanuga stated that the president expects the new PTDF boss to use his experience to reposition the organisation for greater impact, especially in areas such as: Human capital development, Innovation and research, Strategic support for Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The government believes the move will help improve capacity development in the nation’s energy sector.
In a related development, President Tinubu also approved the renewal of Sule Abdulaziz’s appointment as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
His renewed tenure will serve as his second and final term in office.
The presidency said the decision followed a positive review of Abdulaziz’s performance in managing Nigeria’s electricity transmission network.
According to the statement, the TCN under Abdulaziz has recorded improvements in several areas, including:
• Better grid stability, Expansion of transmission capacity, Modernisation of power systems
The government also acknowledged his role in promoting regional electricity cooperation through the West African Power Pool.
President Tinubu urged both officials to carry out their duties with diligence, professionalism, and integrity in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
