The Sultan and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.
The Sultan, in a condolence message issued by Bashir Adefaka on Friday, extended his sympathies to the late Emir’s immediate family, the Gumel Emirate Council, the Jigawa State Government and people, the Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC) and the wider Muslim community.
The Emir died on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt, after a 46-year reign.
He ascended the ancient throne of Gumel on December 16, 1980, and devoted nearly five decades to the service of his people, preservation of the emirate’s cultural heritage, and promotion of peace, education, unity and community development.
In the condolence message, on behalf of the Sultan’s Media Team, the Sultan described the late Emir as a distinguished scholar, a man of wisdom and a father figure whose death represented a major loss to Gumel Emirate, Jigawa State, the traditional institution and the Muslim Ummah.
“On behalf of myself, my family and the Sultanate, I extend my deepest condolences to the immediate family of His Royal Highness, the Gumel Emirate Council, the Government and good people of Jigawa State, the Northern Traditional Rulers Council and the entire Muslim Ummah over this painful and irreparable loss,” the Sultan said.
He added that the late Emir dedicated his life to serving his people and promoting peace, education and the preservation of cultural and traditional values.
“His Royal Highness carried the responsibilities of the revered throne of Gumel with dignity, humility and unwavering commitment. His 46 years on the throne constitute a remarkable chapter in the history of the Emirate and will remain a lasting testimony to his dedication to his people and to the traditional institution,” he said.
The Sultan said the traditional institution would miss the late Emir’s wisdom, counsel and fatherly disposition, as well as his contributions to peace, unity and community development.
“We submit to the will of Almighty Allah, Who gives life and takes it at the appointed time. We therefore pray that Allah SWT, in His infinite mercy, forgives the shortcomings of the departed Emir, accepts his good deeds, rewards his years of service to humanity and grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus,” he said.
He also prayed for strength and fortitude for the late Emir’s family, the Gumel Emirate Council, the people of Jigawa State and the Muslim Ummah to bear the loss.
The Sultan urged the people of Gumel Emirate and Jigawa State to remain steadfast in faith and prayer, while upholding the values of peace, unity, dignity and service to humanity for which the late Emir was widely respected.
