Sokoto state governor, Ahmad Aliyu has extended the tenure of local government sole administrators.
A statement by the Press Secretary to the governor on Monday, said the extension was to enable the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) prepare adequately for elections.
“In line with the provisions of the Sokoto State Local Government Law 2008 as amended by Law no 3 2018, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, fcna has approved the extension of the tenure of Local Governments Sole Administrators in the State.
“The extension of the tenure is to allow the Sokoto State independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) to adequately prepare for elections into the 23 local government councils of the State,” the statement reads.
The state governor while congratulating the Sole Administrators for the tenure extension, also commended them for their sustained efforts in transforming the lives of the rural dwellers in their respective local government areas.
He assured them of the state government’s readiness to support them to diligently discharge their duties in the service of the people of the state.
The extension of the tenure, which is from two to three years, according to the statement, takes immediate effect.
The governor had dissolved the LG councils immediately after he assumed office.
