ASHENEWS reports that the Sokoto state government has commenced the payment of N6,500 as monthly stipends to People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs), in fulfilment of his campaign promise.
ASHENEWS recalls that Aliyu, in his inauguration speech, promised to reintroduced payment of monthly stipends to PLWDs.
A statement by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Abubakar Bawa made available to ASHENEWS Tuesday night, said the payment, which began on Tuesday took place in different centers, simultaneously.
The three centers located in Sokoto North, Dange Shuni and Gwadabawa local governments, witnessed large turnout of the already screened PLWDs, who received N6,500 each as their monthly stipends, Bawa said in the statement.
Some of beneficiaries interviewed commended governor Aliyu Sokoto for restoring the monthly stipends.
According to them, the stipends would go a long way in improving their living condition, as well as reduce street begging.
It could be recalled that governor Aliyu, during his campaign rallies, promised to restore the monthly stipends to PLWDs and other important segment in the society.
“The governor set up a committee to actualize the restoration of the payment of the monthly stipends which commenced today.”
