Sokoto council chairman urges completion of water project

“Many local government areas are enjoying the benefits of the 1.5 million litres semi-urban water supply project except Binji”

Wadata Maikulki, the Chairman of Binji local government area of Sokoto state, has appealed to contractors handling 1.5 million litres semi-urban water supply project to complete the project for peoples benefits.

Maikulki made the appeal when a team of Journalists led by Chairman of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, Mr Dalhatu Safiyal-Magori, on projects monitoring tour visited the area on Tuesday.

He said the water project was part of local government uniform project initiated by Sokoto state government in all the 23 local government areas of the state.

According to him, many local government areas were enjoying the benefits of the project with the exception of Binji, noting that non completion have robed the people of the area the benefits of accessing a clean potable water as obtained in other places.

He lamented that the project is still at concrete laying state for tanks while water riggs were drilled for about two years now.

The council chairman urged state government to intervene, stressing that several efforts on contacting relevant government officials was done on the issue.

Maikulki said the area have benefited with numerous projects by the state government that included construction of mega premier hospital which is ongoing, renovation of district head’s palaces in Binji and Bunkari towns.

Others projects inspected included construction of upstairs classrooms at Government Day Secondary School Maikulki, Sabon Gari Primary School among many others in the schools.

He further led journalists to the renovated Jumu’at mosques at Gwahitto, Dalijam, Bunkari, Maikulki and Binji along with upgraded Primary Healthcare Centers at Maikulki, Gidan Mai-Debbe and Bulkari towns.

Other project he led the team to comprised constructed of women development center, Divisional Police Station which is also ongoing and solar powered boreholes at Soro, Gidan Bawa, Runji towns.

He added that local government council also drilled borehole to improve water supply in 15 communities, constructed culverts, electrification projects, Islamiyya community schools among others.

He further said people of the area have equally benefited with economic empowerment supports comprising N20,000 small scale businesses grants giving to 100 persons among others.

Maikulki called on benefiting communities to safeguard their projects noting that the infrastructure were meant to uplift peoples lives especially those living in the rural areas.

The Council Chairman added that Binji is among the LGAs faced with security challenges as Qarani, Gidan Qirya communities not easy accessible due to insecurity.

He said the council spend much in trying to support security agencies and vigilante groups on efforts to address the challenges.

“Security challenges, more access roads are among our major challenges faced by our people in Binji LGA,” said.
