The Abakaliki Rice Mill Owners Association has appealed to Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State to provide them with solar power in their efforts to curb the activities of thieves in the industry.
The Chairman of the Industry, Mr. Linus Obeji told journalists on Saturday that such steady light would lighten up the areas, especially at night, and boost security.
According to Obeji, though the issue of thieves has reduced, we still need solar light to lighten up strategic corners at night.
Obeji further appealed to the Governor to initiate programme that would attract foreign investors to the Mill site.
On the current peace in the Mill, the Chairman thanked the Governor for his quick intervention.
The rice Mills were facing a crisis following the enforcement of fraudulent activities by some touts on millers using non-approved rice bags.
He thanked the Governor for always standing on the side of fairness, truth, and justice for his members.
“We appreciate His Excellency, Gov. Francis Nwifuru, for his immediate intervention on the issue of the rice mill.
“The Governor is the architect of the current peace we are enjoying in Abakaliki rice mill. We are using this opportunity to appreciate him for his quick intervention in restoring peace for us,” he said.
Obeji listed some of his achievements as Chairman of the Mill to include, including the provision of basic amenities like a functional police station and the construction of toilets among others.
Chief Sunday Oketa, Traditional Ruler of Ugwachara Nkaleke autonomous community in Ebonyi, also thanked the Governor for restoring peace in the Mill.
Oketa, also a member of the Rice Mill Association, called for unity among members to ensure sufficient food for the people.
“The mill has won the fight against the use of bad measuring scales and bushels in the name of cheating customers
“We are saying no to the use of bad measuring scales and such acts have been defeated.
“I urge members to support the leadership of the Mill for the smooth running of business in the industry,” Okete added.
