The Ooni of Ife, Mr. Enitan Ogunwusi has denounced the agitators of the Yoruba Nation, while describing them as mere attention seekers.

Speaking when he hosted members of the Yoruba Council Worldwide in his palace on Tuesday, Ogunwusi said the agitators do not represent the interests of the Yoruba race.

He advised Nigerians not to give the Yoruba nation agitators any attention.

“We should not give those people relevance, they are achieving their aims just to seek attention, we are having challenges here and there in the country, and this administration is really trying her best.

“Under President Bola Tinubu, he is doing very well, he is doing exceptionally well. By trying to fix the economy, we should give him the benefit of the doubt and also engage people, very important that we should be engaging people to talk to others about the successes recorded by the government in power.

“For us, we will continue to uphold and support the government, to support the president, to ensure everything he does is to our advantage, not as a race, but to our advantage as a nation, irrespective of where you come from, Yoruba land or anywhere.”

ASHENEWS recalls that on Saturday, April 13, 2024, the Nigeria Police arrested 20 suspected Yoruba nation agitators for their alleged role in the invasion of the Oyo State Government Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the state capital.

Some Yoruba nation agitators had, on Saturday morning, invaded the secretariat and took over some parts of the area.

Reacting to the threat, the state Commissioner of Police, Hazmat Adebola, detailed a highly powered investigation team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident as well as expand the network of arresting through painstaking intelligence-driven investigation.

A statement by the spokesperson of the command, Adewale Osifeso in Ibadan, said the suspects were dressed in military camouflage.

According to him, the suspects were armed with cutlasses, pump action rifles, cartridges, assorted charms and an O’dua nation agitation flag.

“Today, Saturday 13/04/2024 at about 0915hrs, the valiant and eagle-eyed operatives of the state police command in concert with some members of its sister agencies, successfully thwarted an attempt by hoodlums suspected to be members of the ‘Yoruba Nation Agitation Group’ driven by a separatist agenda, in an attempt to forcefully take over the State Government Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
