ASHENEWS reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress in Zamfara State have condemned the non-payment of workers’ salaries in the state for two consecutive months.
The unions, in a statement jointly signed by the Chairperson of the NLC in the state, Comrade Sani Halliru, and the Chairman of the state’s TUC, Comrade Saidu Mudi asked the state government to as a matter of urgency pay civil servants and ameliorate the sufferings of the people.
“Series of issues prevailed and meetings were vigorously held in respect of the above subject matter involving all the stakeholders on the best way it could be handled where the two labor centers, the Nigeria labor congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, strongly condemned and expressed their dismay over the nonchalant attitude of the Zamfara state government to pay the salary of its workers for two consecutive months.
“Having patiently waited for the salary to be paid, the two labor centers therefore as a matter of responsibility request the state government to save the lives of workers and that of their families who heavily rely on salary and being their legitimate earnings and their statutory rights to with immediate effect pay the salary to alleviate their hardships, ” the statement said.
