The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), has donated relief materials to victims of flood and other Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kwara state.
The Director-General, Dr Bashir Jamoh said in Ilorin on Monday, that the donation was part of the agency’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to ameliorate the plight of those affected by banditry and other forms of insecurity.
According to the DG who was represented by the Coordinator of Abuja Zonal Office, Mrs Moji Jimoh, the gesture would go a long way in making life easier for the beneficiaries, adding that “we look forward to greater collaboration between the state and agency in the future.”
Jimoh further disclosed that the items which include mattresses, cartons of noodles, bags of garri, rice, sugar, yam tubers, spaghetti, sewing/grinding machines, tricycles and welding equipments, amongst others, were in two categories for the displaced persons and empowerment to boost the SMEs sector.
Kwara state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof Manman Jibril said, displayed persons need to be assisted by the government and other agencies because they are highly in need of basic requirements of life.
He noted that the effort of NIMASA would complement that of the state government, while assuring that the items would not be diverted but diverted to those for who they are sent.
