There is current military unrest in the North African country of Sudan and there are many Nigerian citizens living there, including students.
Since the crisis broke out in Sudan, nationals of many countries have been trapped there.

Nigerian students there have pleaded with the Federal government to come to their rescue by evacuating them back to their country for safety.
In a last minute thought however, the federal government of Nigeria has finally set up a committee to begin the process of rescuing Nigerian citizens trapped in Sudan.
A statement by the Head of Press Unit of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Manzo Ezekiel, on Saturday, expressed worry over its inability to evacuate Nigerians in the face of the deadly crisis in Sudan.

But according to NEMA, the committee consists of professional emergency responders, search and rescue experts, “will constantly evaluate the situation and seek for the safest way to evacuate the Nigerian citizens even if it is through a country neigbouring Sudan.”
It added that it has been in “constant communication with all relevant partners including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and security agencies while seeking for an appropriate window of opportunity to evacuate all stranded Nigerians back home in a safe and dignified manner.”
According the Director General of NEMA, Mustapha Ahmed, the agency is working with all its partners and is constantly compiling updated information on the situation, as well as working on all possible options of bringing the stranded Nigerians safely back home.
