The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken delivery of media equipment from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to boost the operations of its radio broadcast.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDDC, Mr Samuel Ogbuku, said the gesture was a deliberate investment in communication, visibility and national development.

Obgbuku, represented by the Director, NDDC Liaison Office, Abuja, Mrs Mary Nwaeke, described NYSC as a vital institution in fostering unity, service and nation-building over the years.

He specifically lauded the Media Department for playing a critical role in documenting activities, shaping narratives and projecting the ideals of the scheme to Nigerians and the global community.

He commended the department for its foresight in reaching out to the commission for support.

“We are pleased to have responded positively to this request and to hand over a comprehensive package designed to significantly improve the technical and operational efficiency of NYSC Radio,” he said.

Ogbuku said the equipment included a complete inverter system with lithium batteries to ensure stable and uninterrupted power supply.

He added that the commission also provided a two-kilowatt Italian-made radio transmitter, noted for its efficiency and compliance with regulatory standards.

He said the intervention also covered the complete renovation of the NYSC radio wiring system in both recording and live studios to eliminate audio noise and enhance sound quality.

Ogbuku further said that the commission supported the digital visibility of NYSC Radio through its placement on Radio Garden platform for global online access.

He emphasised that effective communication remained essential in a fast-paced, information-driven world.

“By equipping the Media Department with these resources, the NDDC is enhancing NYSC’s ability to deliver impactful, accurate and engaging content.

“We are confident that this intervention will significantly improve the quality of media output from the NYSC,” he said.

The Director-General of NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, described the donation as a major boost to the scheme’s broadcasting capacity.

Nafiu, represented by the Director, Media Department, Mr Emeka Mgbemena, said the radio station had been in operation for more than four years and served as a training ground for corps members.

He said the station was run largely by corps members, who acquired practical skills in broadcasting while contributing to its operations.

According to him, more than 12 corps members trained at the station in the past three years have secured employment in media organisations.

He said the new transmitter and supporting equipment would enhance transmission quality and ensured uninterrupted broadcast.

Mgbemena appreciated the NDDC and assured that the equipment would be put to effective use to further strengthen the station’s mandate to educate, inform and entertain.
