JAMB candidates can now swap SIMs, change emails [HERE’S HOW]

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved a controlled process allowing candidates who have genuinely lost access to their registered phone numbers or email accounts to update their details.

The new policy, which takes effect Monday, September 21, 2026, reverses JAMB’s earlier ban on SIM swapping and email changes, introduced as a security measure against fraud and unauthorised alterations of candidates’ records.

Under the revised arrangement, candidates who can no longer access their registered GSM numbers or recover their registered emails accounts can apply for the service after undergoing enhanced identity and biometric verification.

JAMB said the process is designed to ease the difficulties faced by candidates while maintaining safeguards against impersonation and fraud.

However, the Board stressed that SIM swapping and/or email change will be allowed only once for each candidate.

Here is how to change your SIM or email

Candidates seeking the service must visit a designated JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centre, including JAMB State Offices where applicable.

They are required to have:

• The new GSM number and/or email address;
• A duly executed Court Affidavit, scanned and ready for upload.

The process involves the following steps:

1. Log into the JAMB e-Facility profile using existing credentials, including the email address, registration number or profile code.
2. Select “SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment” and pay the prescribed fee.
3. Visit a JAMB CBT (PTC/PRC) Centre and access the SIM Swap/eMail Change Quicklink.
4. Enter the candidate’s profile code or existing GSM number and click “Fetch Details.”
5. Complete biometric verification and select the required service — GSM number only, email address only, or both.
6. Enter the new GSM number and/or email address and upload the scanned Court Affidavit.
7. Click “Update” to complete the process.
8. A confirmation message will appear once the update is successfully completed.

JAMB advised candidates to use the facility only in genuine cases and to patronise designated centres to avoid fraud.

The Board said the reviewed policy is intended to balance stronger data security with more candidate-friendly services, particularly for candidates who lose access to their registered credentials through circumstances beyond their control.
