Local vigilantes in Shiroro local government area of Niger state on Thursday, raided terrorists camps in some communities of the area, killing scores of bandits.
According to a source, the vigilantes killed three terrorists around Chukuba axis, in Kwaki/Chukuba ward of Shiroro local government and 10 others at Sarari area in the same Kwaki/Chukuba ward of Shiroro local government, while a large number of others escaped with various gunshots injuries.
The source also said that while dangerous weapons were recovered from the criminals during the deadly encounter, many kidnap victims were rescued unhurt.
Meanwhile, the Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger state have commended the vigilantes for their gallantry and called on government to support the local vigilantes in their efforts to fight insecurity in the areas.
The co-conveners, Sani Kokki and Bello Ibrahim said, “These coordinated onslaughts led to the instant neutralization of scores of terrorists believed to be elements of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
“The brave, courageous, determined and fearless local vigilantes subdued the criminals after head-on confrontations at different times.
“The Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger state, commend the uncommon bravery and gallantry exhibited by these fearless local vigilantes during gun duel. Your patriotic disposition deserved presidential award!
“As the leading CSO on insecurity in the state, the Concerned Shiroro Youths of Niger state pleads with the government at all levels to urgently come to the aid of local vigilantes with a view to strengthening their capacity for optimal performance.
“And to further demonstrate desirability to end rural banditry and other forms of criminality, government should harness and complement local initiatives because same is result oriented,” the group said.
