Bauchi state government, has restated its commitment to sustain partnership with international development partners that are working to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr Samaila Dahuwa stated this while speaking at the USAID Integrated Health program, USAID-IHP, 2022 first quarterly review meeting (Pause and Reflect Learning Session) on Tuesday.
He said that the various interventions by partners has great impact on the health of the people.
“Development partners, especially those working in the health sector have supported the state in the areas of reproductive, maternal, newborn child health, nutrition and malaria RMNCH+NM.
“This collaboration has gone a long way in improving access to quality health by the populace, particularly at the primary healthcare level”.
Dahuwa assured that the ministry will continue to relate with development partners to achieve the target of the state government in relation to quality healthcare services across the state.
He commended the USAID/IHP for successes recorded in the period under review despite the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
“The program has assisted in the area of ongoing COVID-19 vaccination.”
The Director, Hospital Services Bauchi State Hospital Management Board, Dr Robinson Yusuf said the Pause & Reflect Learning Session will provide feedback on success and gaps reported during the program implementation.
“It is an avenue where feedback will help government and other partners to look for strategies to strengthen primary healthcare services.”
He opined that when primary healthcare is strengthened, access and quality delivery will be improved thereby lessen the burden on secondary and tertiary health care services.
State Director of USAID Integrated Health program, IHP in Bauchi state, Dr Siaka Alhassan said that the year 2022 will be full of activities explaining that the meeting is looking at IHP planned activities, implementation, Challenges and way forward.
“Key findings in the last quarter shows improvement in the areas of Family Planning, Malaria and the treatment of diarrhea.”
He also said that the meeting was meant for state and partners to scrutinize what is presented and to criticize objectively for better action.
Alhassan urged participants to interact positively and come up with constructive criticisms and suggestions that would enable IHP to succeed.
