Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has congratulated Chief Ikeje Asogwa on his landslide victory in the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election, describing it as a “statement victory.”
In a statement issued on Sunday in Enugu, Mbah said the win confirmed the widespread acceptance and political dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
He stated that the people of the senatorial district made the best choice for quality representation and demonstrated full alignment with the APC.
“On behalf of the government and people of Enugu State, I congratulate Chief Ikeje Asogwa on this resounding victory.
It is a statement and landmark victory for our administration and the APC as a party.
If there was any doubt, this landslide victory proves beyond rhetoric that APC has become the unquestionable dominant political force across our state. Our people are fully aligned,” Mbah said.
The governor also praised the vote of confidence in Asogwa, whom he described as a “people’s champion” who has distinguished himself in service to his community and the state.
“He will strengthen the state-federal partnership and bring dividends of democracy,” he added.
It was recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Asogwa the winner of the senatorial seat previously held in 2023 by Labour Party Senator Okey Ezea, who died in November 2025.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Christian Ezeibe, announced the result early Sunday, with Asogwa receiving 162,360 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 9,299 votes.
