The 13th National Council on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development is set to take place in Gombe, Gombe State, from Monday, November 11 to Friday, November 15, 2024. This was confirmed in a statement released by Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Themed “Housing the Future: Affordable Housing for Economic Growth, Climate Resilience, and Urban Development,” the event will be held at the Gombe International Conference Centre on Airport Road. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa-Dangiwa, will preside over the council, supported by the new Minister of State, Abdullahi Yusuf-Ata.

The State Governor and Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Muhammadu Inuwa-Yahaya, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.

Participants will include state commissioners and permanent secretaries responsible for housing, lands, and urban development, along with general managers, chief executives of housing corporations, state surveyors-general, and professionals from regulatory agencies and the broader built industry.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, emphasized that the council meeting serves as an annual platform for stakeholders to review the sector’s performance, address challenges, and propose solutions. He noted, “It’s an opportunity for government officials, experts, and regulatory agencies to exchange ideas on critical issues affecting the housing sector.”

Resolutions from the council meeting will guide the government in developing policies and programs to advance the sector. The previous council meeting was held in Kaduna in 2023, with the theme: “Harnessing Local and International Credit Schemes as a Panacea for Housing Infrastructure Development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
