The Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero has ordered immediate sack of Yoruba Obas in seven local government areas of the state.
The affected Yoruba heads had met with the emir in his palace and accused the Oba Yoruba of Kano state, Engr Murtala Alimi Otisese of various misdemeanors.
They petitioned the Emir of Kano against Oba Otisese, accusing him of high-handedness, causing disaffection and disharmony among the Yoruba people of the state.
However in a twist of fate, the Emir of Kano said he had never appointed them as Obas of the seven local government areas.
He therefore declared that they violated the laws of the land by parading themselves as obas in their various local government areas without due process.
According to the Emir, since there is an Oba of Yoruba in the state, the other traditional heads in the various local government areas were supposed to be Baales (district heads) and subjects of Oba Otisese.
He recalled an earlier meeting he had with them where he directed them to follow due process by presenting themselves to the Oba Yoruba of Kano state whose responsibility it is to install them as Baales after which he would lead them to his palace for royal blessings.
He noted that the traditional institution in the state recognises only one Oba under whom other leaders of the Yoruba Community are.
