An educationist, Mr Mike Fatukasi, has advised the Federal Government to revive and create more farm settlements to boost food sufficiency and productivity in the country.
Fatukasi, also the Principal, Adedotun International Schools, Dalemo, Ota, gave the advice in an interview on Sunday in Ota, Ogun.
He said that reviving farm settlements across the country would help to boost productivity, provide employment for many youths, especially the unemployed and touts.
He said that touting contributed to hike in transport fares and increase in prices of goods, as traders transferred their expenses to consumers in form of higher prices of goods.
“Reinvigorating farm settlements across the country will help to improve Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generate more revenue for the country through export.
”In addition, this will also stem youth’s restless and bring many out of unemployment rate as well as reducing the crime rate in the country,” he said.
The educationist said there was need to provide enabling environment like stable electricity, adequate security, good road networks and good policies to support such initiative among others, for the farm settlements to thrive.
He added that the ability of the federal government to establish farm settlement, would also help to support the palliative measures and ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians.
