Business consultant and leadership expert Mr. Fela Durotoye has urged couples to align their visions and dreams with those of their partners to build impactful lives and successful homes.
Durotoye, who is also a politician and motivational speaker, made this call at the 7th edition of the SheCan Conference in Lagos.
Speaking on marriage and leadership, Durotoye noted that life becomes easier when a husband aligns with his wife’s goals and dreams.
He added that a person truly becomes impactful once they determine their purpose.
“We have three categories of men: the hunter, the scavenger, and the gardener.
“A gardener understands his purpose, takes care of his wife like a garden, and helps her succeed,” Durotoye said.
He emphasized that a man’s success can be measured by his wife’s success because he gives her the wings to fly.
According to him, a wife can comfortably be a mother at home while thriving as a leader in her career.
Furthermore, he noted that a girl child is more likely to succeed when she sees her mother succeed.
“The best gift I can give my future daughters-in-law is to raise my sons well.
“My sons will be able to carry my purpose, not because I told them, but because they have seen how purposeful I am in life,” he said.
The leadership expert also pointed out that for a man to effectively support his wife’s dreams, the woman must communicate clearly, define her aspirations, and show genuine passion for them.
He concluded by noting that structural misalignment often destroys relationships, stating that “every marriage conflict is a result of a conflict in values.”
It was reported that the SheCan Conference is an annual empowerment event designed to help women realize their full potential across careers, business, and education through mentorship, career fairs, and skill accelerators.
