Bandits, in a late-night raid on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, have killed the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and abducted 23 students. Three security personnel attached to the school are also reported missing.
A resident of the community, Murjanatu Hassan Gishiri, who confirmed the bandits attack, said the attackers stormed the school at night and operated without resistance. She described the invasion as “a heartbreaking tragedy that has thrown the entire region into deep fear and mourning.”
According to her, the Vice Principal was shot while attempting to protect the students from the assailants.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Kebbi State Government nor the State Polices Command has issued an official statement on the incident.
Residents have, however, called for urgent government intervention to secure the release of the abducted students and to strengthen security in schools and communities vulnerable to persistent bandit attacks.
