ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Abdullahi Suleiman has called for understanding from the agitators of the planned nationwide “EndBadGovernanceProtest.” He asked them to put the planned protest to rest.
Suleiman emphasized the potential for the protest to turn violent and urged the youth to consider alternative means of expressing their grievances.
In his appeal which was contained in a press statement made available to ASHENEWS, Suleiman stressed the importance of unity and safeguarding Nigeria’s stability. He warned that the protest, while a constitutional right, could be easily hijacked by those with malicious intentions, leading to violence and destruction similar to what occurred during the “#EndSARSProtest.”
“Recent events show President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is actively engaging with religious and traditional leaders, indicating that our concerns are being heard,” Suleiman said. “In light of this, we urge the youth to explore more effective ways to communicate with the government and to reconsider the planned protest for August 1st to 10th.
“We urge the youths to consider more effective means of communicating their grievances and to avoid the protest in the interest of national stability and the safety of innocent citizens.
Suleiman reassured the youth that efforts are being made to bring their concerns directly to the President through a roundtable discussion with key government officials. “Our goal is to articulate and advance our grievances to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a possible solution,” he added.
It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress has urged organisers of the protest to shelve its agitation to have President Bola Tinubu scrap the 1999 Constitution, describing it as a tall order.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun on Friday asked all groups planning to participate in the demonstrations to submit their details to the commissioners of police in their respective states since they claimed that the protest would be peaceful.
“We acknowledge the constitutional right of Nigerian citizens to peaceful assembly and protest. However, in the interest of public safety and order, we urge all groups planning to protest to provide necessary details to the Commissioner of Police in the state where the protest is intended to take place”, he said.
