The Sokoto state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced Idris Muhammad Gobir as deputy governorship candidate for the 2023 general elections.
The chairman of the party, Isah Achida made the announcement while addressing newsmen at the party secretariat on Tuesday.
Gobir will serve as the running mate of Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto who is the governorship flag-bearer of the party.
“You are no doubt aware that, through one of the most transparent primary congresses ever conducted in this country, the Sokoto State APC, on the 28th of May 2022, elected His Excellency Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu FCNA as the Gubernatorial Candidate for the 2023 General Elections. What remained was the choice of running mate for our candidate.
“After due consultations and deliberations between the Sokoto State APC candidate other relevant party stakeholders and interest groups, we have come to the conclusion that our unanimous choice for the deputy governorship candidate is ldris Muhammad Gobir, affectionately called “Dan Chadi”, by his admirers,” Achida said.
Who is Gobir?
Gobir, aged 47 was born in Sabon Birni town 1975 and an Alumnus of the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.
He holds five Masters Degree including in Computer Software management International affairs and diplomacy and is currently pursuing his Doctorate degree at the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA).
“An accomplished administrator, our Deputy Governorship Candidate, began his service career as a School Teacher in Sabon Birni local government before venturing into other public service sectors, such as the maritime and petroleum industries, where he served with the Nigerian Ports Authority and the Department of Petroleum Resources.
“Honourable ldris Muhammad Gobir, Dan Chadi, is a onetime Commissioner of Budget and Fconomic Planning and also served as Sole Administrator of Sabon Birni local government, where he won several awards, including the Best Performing Local Government Chairman in the North West geopolitical zone,” the chairman further said.
