The Action Democratic Party (ADP) on Friday unveiled Mr Victor Fingesi, as its Rivers governorship candidate, for 2023 poll.
Unveiling the candidate, the state ADP Chairman, Mr Kendrick Christian, said that the party was tired of bad governance in the state and has decided to give the people a credible alternative.
“We lack good leadership in this state and have suffered a lot. We want to hand over to the people a good pilot that will develop the state and take it to greater heights,” Christian said.
In his speech, Fingesi said he wanted to be the governor to solve the problems of the state including poverty, unemployment as well as increased crime and insecurity.
“My Rivers people, the major problem we have is poverty which is the reason we are having increased rate of crime and insecurity,” he said.
Fingesi said that the state was blessed with natural and human resources, generating N57.3 billion annually and yet had over 1.7 million unemployed youths.
The candidate said the state also has over 188,590 out of school children, due to poor leadership.
He promised to revolutionalise agriculture and create jobs for the teeming population if voted in 2023.
He said that with over 250,000 fertile arable land and rich water ways, Rivers could lead an agricultural revolution and feed the rest of the world.
“We will bring mentoring experts and skill trainers from functional economies to transfer skills and knowledge to our people to rebuild the economy of Rivers to our desires and dreams,” he said.
On education, the candidate said ADP administration would invest 25 per cent of the state budget in education to provide technical, formal and vocational skills at all levels.
“Our administration will turn our youths into globally competitive force and we will harness their full potentials in rebuilding Rivers.
“In Action Democratic Party, we want to give Rivers people the opportunity to choose their leaders for themselves.
“We are willing by all means to rebuild a government where Rivers people are real stakeholders and no one will be left behind,” he said.
