Nigeria’s farmers may soon breathe a sigh of relief as the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has assured that fertilizer and other key inputs will become more affordable and accessible, in a renewed push to boost agricultural production nationwide.
AFAN President, Dr. Faruk Rabi’u Mudi, gave the assurance during a live interview on Freedom Radio 99.5 FM Kano, where he pledged to intensify efforts to ease the burden on farmers through timely support and cheaper inputs.
According to him, the association is working closely with government stakeholders to develop policies and strategies that will guarantee farmers receive the assistance they need. He emphasized that reducing fertilizer costs and improving its availability remains central to lifting Nigeria’s food output.
“We are in continuous discussions with government representatives to secure relief for our farmers, especially regarding fertilizer and other key agricultural inputs,” Dr. Mudi said.
The AFAN president also revealed that the association has embarked on a nationwide registration campaign to capture both large-scale and smallholder farmers into its database. This, he explained, will enable AFAN to better understand the unique challenges facing farmers across different regions and address them more effectively.
On the challenge of insecurity, which has forced many farmers off their lands, Dr. Mudi said AFAN is collaborating with security agencies to safeguard farming communities.
“We are working day and night to ensure farmers in troubled areas are provided with adequate security to continue their activities,” he assured.
Dr. Mudi concluded by disclosing that AFAN is preparing to introduce new initiatives aimed at simplifying agricultural practices and equipping farmers with modern tools and resources. He promised that fertilizer and other critical inputs would soon be available at more affordable prices, easing the burden on farmers and strengthening the nation’s food security.
