The Niger State Government says it is in talks with Russia to explore investment opportunities in sunflower oil production and other agro-industrial investments in the East European Nation.
This was made known in a statement issued on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Niger State Governor, Bologi Ibrahim in Minna.
According to the statement, the Niger State Governor Umaru Bago recently held a strategic meeting with representatives of EFKO Group, one of the three largest agro-industrial companies in Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union.
The statement noted that the meeting, which included top government officials from Niger State, focused on potential areas of collaboration, particularly in agriculture and food processing.
The Niger state governor noted that the state stands to benefit immensely from such a partnership, especially through the introduction of advanced farming and processing techniques, as well as the empowerment of local farmers.
The statement added that discussions also covered broader investment opportunities, including public-private partnerships and the development of agro-processing infrastructure.
Both parties agreed to conduct feasibility studies to assess the suitability of Niger State’s land for large-scale sunflower farming.
The statement added that talks will continue around contract terms and the necessary infrastructure to support the venture.
