The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, says Nigeria’s food independence and sovereignty are non-negotiable.
Kyari stated this in a message to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary on Thursday in Abuja.
He said a nation’s true independence is intrinsically linked to its capacity to feed its people.
The minister said Nigeria is food secure and steadily advancing towards self-sufficiency in major staple foods.
He said sustained support for farmers by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, including fertiliser, mechanisation and other farm inputs, has created positive prospects for the 2026 rainy season.
“Consequently, the downward trend in food inflation is expected to be sustained,” he said.
Kyari urged farmers and stakeholders across the agricultural value chain to support efforts to improve food security and productivity in farming communities.
He wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence Day celebration.
