Sokoto government has set up a technical committee for the establishment of a new fertiliser plant in the state.

The plant will be established by Prime Gold Fertiliser and Chemical Company, an indigenous company based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Inaugurating the committee in Sokoto Tuesday, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Bashir Garba, said the project is of prime importance to the government and will will do everything possible to ensure it comes to fruition.

He said the technical committee will study and appraise the proposal sent by Prime Gold Fertiliser Company towards ascertaining its credibility and feasibility while securing a fair deal for the state government under a public private partnership (PPP) arrangement.

“The committee will also identify a suitable location for the setting of the proposed company, as well as determining the scope and equity participation of the Sokoto state government,” the SSG said.

According to him, it will also recommend appropriate sources of project financing by the state in terms of the equity participation to be proposed to the government.

The committee, which has four weeks within which to submit its report, will be headed by the state commissioner of solid minerals and natural resources development, Hon Bello Goronyo.

Other members include the commissioner of commerce, Aminu Bello Sokoto, DG of the state Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture, Sani Musa, representative of the state ministries of agriculture and justice, as well as representative of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC).

Meanwhile, the Sokoto state government has also inaugurated the state Orphanages Management Committee under the leadership of Dr. Malami Muhammad Bankanu.

Other members are Alhaji Sabitu Kebbe, Malam Nura Attajiri and Mustapha Tangaza who will serve as the secretary.
