The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has donated thousands of bags of rice to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and Kogi State as part of its N16 billion Annual National Food Intervention programme aimed at alleviating hunger among vulnerable Nigerians.
The initiative, flagged off in Abuja on Tuesday, saw 10,000 bags of 10kg rice presented to the FCT administration for distribution to the poor and vulnerable. Senior Special Adviser to the President of Dangote Group, Fatima Abdurrahman, who represented the Foundation, said the intervention is part of Dangote’s commitment to supporting all tiers of government in cushioning the economic challenges facing citizens.
Fatima noted that the intervention programme was launched in 2024 with a N15 billion food donation to all 774 local government areas across the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, represented by Ango Abdullahi, expressed appreciation to Alhaji Aliko Dangote, describing him as a key contributor to Nigeria’s economic growth. He assured that the food items would be delivered directly to those in need.
In Kogi State, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Rabietu Okute, confirmed receipt of 40,000 bags of 10kg rice from the Foundation.
She said the items were distributed across the state’s 21 local government areas and 239 wards, targeting vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities and orphanages.
According to her, the distribution, which began on March 26, followed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s directive to ensure the food reached those who need it most.
She praised the Foundation for what she described as a “genuine act of compassion and philanthropy.”
ADF’s General Manager, Community Affairs and Special Duties, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi, who supervised the Kogi distribution, noted that the donation would further strengthen the relationship between the company and the state.
Managing Director of the Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, reiterated ADF’s commitment to tackling hunger and poverty in Nigeria, stating that Aliko Dangote remains passionate about giving back to society.
