President Bola Tinubu has promised that the ongoing provision of clean water by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will be extended to all area councils of the territory.
Tinubu, represented by the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, gave the assurance while inaugurating the newly constructed Bwari Water Supply Network in Bwari on Tuesday.
He noted that for years, residents of Bwari, Ushafa, and surrounding communities have relied on water from untreated boreholes and streams.
The President said the inauguration of the water supply project fulfilled his administration’s promise under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as “not merely a slogan but a contract.”
“As we mark our third anniversary in office, we are here today to celebrate the fulfillment of that promise right here in Bwari.
“Water is life. Clean water is dignity; it is a fundamental right, not a luxury. Today, we are inaugurating this massive, state-of-the-art 198-kilometre water pipeline network.
“By linking Bwari township and its environs directly to our major treated water source at the Lower Usuma Dam, we are ending waterborne diseases and the constant, expensive digging of individual boreholes.
“Last year, it was the Lower Usuma Dam Phase II rehabilitation; last month, it was the Karu Water Network; today it is Bwari.
“I assure you, by the grace of God, before our tenure is through, this water revolution will fully cover Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji,” he said.
The President commended the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, for his fiscal discipline, political will and deep love for residents of the territory.
He said that from boosting the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue to executing landmark projects in roads, housing and now water, Wike has proven to be a reliable champion of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
Earlier, Wike recalled that President Tinubu gave the directive to expand water supply to the satellite towns during the inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Project in 2025.
He said that in compliance with the directive, the Karu Water Supply Network was inaugurated on June 29 “and today, we are inaugurating the Bwari Water Supply Network.”
“Let people know that we’re not only concentrating on roads; we’re also making sure other sectors are being touched,” the minister said.
