Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has announced a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for all categories of civil servants in the state.
Nwifuru made the announcement on Sunday during a church service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki.
The governor said the gesture reflects his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of workers, despite the limited revenue accrued to the state over the past year.
According to him, the decision was taken in recognition of the dedication and resilience of civil servants amid prevailing economic challenges.
Speaking on the forthcoming local government elections in the state, Nwifuru promised a level playing field for all aspirants.
He declared that he has no preferred candidate and has not anointed anyone for the exercise.
“As far as I am concerned, the will of the people must prevail. The people must choose their representatives without interference from any quarter,” the governor said.
Nwifuru also reiterated his directive to political appointees intending to contest in the local government elections to resign their appointments in line with existing electoral guidelines.
“It is not my duty to pick chairmen for local government areas.
“If you are an appointee seeking to contest for the chairmanship position in the next council elections, you must resign as stipulated by law,” he said.
