The Katsina State Government on Tuesday inaugurated a technical committee to advance a proposed light rail master plan aimed at reforming urban transportation.

At the inauguration ceremony in Katsina, the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba-Faskari, described the initiative as transformational.

“This project reflects our determination to modernize transportation and stimulate economic growth across Katsina State,” Garba-Faskari said.

He explained that the committee would review proposals, assess financing options, and examine technical requirements before implementation.

According to him, members must ensure full alignment with the Katsina State Development Master Plan covering 2025 to 2040.

“Their recommendations must guarantee feasibility, sustainability, and strategic value for future generations,” the SSG told participants.

He named the Commissioner for Works, Sani Magaji, as chairman of the multi-agency technical committee.

Representatives were drawn from planning, transport, environment, lands, and other key government institutions.

Garba-Faskari said the governor’s office would coordinate administrative duties and serve as the committee’s secretariat.

“We expect diligence, professionalism, and a clear vision in delivering this assignment,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the committee would lay the foundation for a connected, modern, and economically vibrant Katsina State.
