The Kano State Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Ali Namadi, has resigned from his position. His resignation came just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received a report from a committee that investigated Namadi’s involvement in helping to bail a suspected drug dealer, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.
This action is seen as an important move that shows the government’s strong focus on honesty, openness, and accountability.
In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Commissioner said he resigned because of the sensitive nature of the case and in the interest of the public.
He said, “As part of a government that is fighting against illegal drugs, I feel it is my duty to step down—even though it is a difficult decision.”
He also said that while he believes he is innocent, he understands how the public sees the issue and wants to protect the values the government stands for.
Namadi thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the chance to serve the state. He also promised to continue supporting good leadership and responsible governance.
He added, “As a responsible citizen, I must protect and support the trust and vision we have built together in Kano. I will stay loyal to the goals that brought this government into power.”
Governor Yusuf has accepted the resignation and wished Namadi success in the future. He also restated his firm position on justice, discipline, and the fight against drugs and other harmful activities affecting young people and society.
The Governor also reminded all political appointees to be careful when dealing with sensitive issues. He said they must always get approval from higher authorities before acting on matters of public interest.
