Unions in Nigeria’s aviation sector have given the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, a seven-day deadline to fix the delayed salary increase for workers of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
In a letter dated July 31, the unions expressed anger that even though they completed salary negotiations with NAMA management over eight months ago, the agreed salary raise has not been implemented.
The letter was signed by the general secretaries of four unions: Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE).
The unions said they had made several appeals and sent official letters about the salary issue, but no action was taken. This forced them to issue an official ultimatum.
“We have already sent previous warnings through our branches, and now our national unions are giving this final notice. We are giving a seven-day warning, starting from Thursday, July 31, 2025,” the letter said.
The unions warned that if the problem is not solved by August 7, they will stop all work in NAMA offices across the country.
They also told NAMA’s clients and other aviation stakeholders to prepare, warning that flight services could be seriously affected if the issue is not resolved in time.
